Part 4 of The Social Media Strategy Series
People think that Google Plus is dead. Another failed social network. But while it may not have turned out the way Google wanted it to, Google Plus is still an incredibly important part of any content strategy. And if you're not using it, you're missing out on an opportunity.
You don't have to use it as a community-building tool, but it's still incredibly important to search rankings. But in order to take advantage of it, you have to use the platform. So, it's not a question of, should I be using Google Plus or not? Instead, it’s more like, how can I make better use of it?
In this episode, I lay out my strategy for getting a simple SEO boost with a minimum amount of effort.
Here’s a rundown of what you’ll find in this segment:
- Strategies for using Google Plus to help you accumulate online authority.
- How to set up Google Plus properly so many people do this wrong!
- Ensuring that everything is consistent across all your Google properties.
- How to use a Google Plus profile vs. a Google Plus business page.
- My overall posting strategy to minimize effort and maximize efficiency.
- Using automation tools safely with Google Plus.

No one would care about Google Plus anymore if it it wasn’t for one simple fact: Google rules the Internet. Everything we do in online business is affected by Google. Here’s a post that I wrote that gets into how to make sure your content strategy is in line with Google (and Facebook, Apple, and Amazon, too!). It’s called How the Consolidation of Media Affects Your Content Strategy, and it includes an amazing video of Dr. Scott Galloway’s presentation earlier this year describing the massive media shift that has the potential and power to destroy any business that doesn't know and play by the New Rules.
It’s Google’s world and we’re just living in it.
One more thing for how to make super-efficient use of your post excerpts (like I mentioned in the episode), here’s my Content Strategy Toolset. Download in particular my Blog & Social Checklist and the Blog & Social Template, so that you have a simple model for how to do this effectively.
