If you want to produce 100 episodes of a podcast, you can do it too. Perseverance is all that matters. It’s the only factor you can control: To keep going when others give up.
The resistance kicks in. “What if no one shows up? What if no one listens?“
Here’s my advice, whether you want to produce a podcast, blog, a set of videos, or anything else you want to produce to support your business – whatever that business is:
When you set out to create something, do it to create a resource. Do it not just to build an audience, but to serve people instead. Make it a durable resource, a business asset. Something that will last a long time.
Build something that you’d be happy with – even if it doesn’t attract an audience. Don’t get me wrong – it has to be useful in order to be worthwhile. Listen to what people want. Satisfy their needs. Make someone’s life better in some way.
That’s teaching, and it’s the only pathway from awareness to attention to trust. So teach. Earn trust to earn a customer. Armed with a smart content strategy, you can build trust at scale.
Keep making progress, and soon enough you’ll look up and realize that you’ve produced 100 episodes yourself. Here’s Episode 100, I hope that it inspires you to do the same.
Show Notes
My 100th episode serves as yet more proof that content marketing works. Publishing this podcast supports my business, and has brought me opportunities that I couldn’t have imagined when I started in 2015.
Content strategy is teaching. When you educate your customers, you can lead them to better, more informed purchasing decisions. Plus, it positions you as the expert. Guess who they will come to when it’s time to pay for a solution? You! Learn how to do this here: Producing Content to Educate Your Customers.
Creating a resource means that it’s worth putting in the effort, even if no one shows up. Maybe you can even level up and turn your blog or podcast into an online course. Here’s how to do that: Repurposing Content to Create an Online Course.
Next week, I’m getting back to my series: What Content Strategy Teaches You About Business: Counterintuitive Lessons from Mentors and Mistakes. I finished Unit 1 a few weeks ago, and will be starting with Unit 2 next week: The New Marketing & Sales: How to attract customers and earn their business.
