Counterintuitive Lessons from Mentors and Mistakes: An Introduction
I try to live up to the principles of content strategy – provide value without expecting anything in return. While it sounds counterintuitive, this has generally done good things for me in running my own business. What surprised me is that these principles have seeped into the way that I look at the functional side of running my business as well.
This shouldn’t be a surprise at all – because content strategy is used to drive business goals. At base, it’s all about earning enough trust over time until you can ask for the sale.
Consumer behavior has evolved, and trust is the only path to a customer purchase.
So, can we apply the principles of content strategy to how we conduct business? I intend to explore that over the next set of episodes. I’ve divided my plan into 3 units:
- The New Business Mindset (5 episodes)
- The New Marketing & Sales (5 episodes)
- The New Customer Relationship (5 episodes)
I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently, and I hope to challenge you with some things that go against convention wisdom. As small business owners, we are all making it up as we go. All I can do is give you my particular experience – and hope that you benefit from it in some way.
Here’s the first episode of the 16-part series – and Episode 92 of this podcast!
