Look around at the business world and you’ll find countless comparisons to the tech titans: Steve Jobs (Apple), Jeff Bezos (Amazon), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), and others. We love the narrative of those who faced immeasurable odds, yet emerged victorious.
Why do we love this narrative so much? Aside from the deep-seated monomyth of the Hero’s Journey, it provides a template for each of us. It’s aspirational. We love it because we want to live it – and here’s the blueprint right in front of us.
This narrative can be harmful, though. By inviting these comparisons, you’re setting yourself (and your customers) up for disappointment. By focusing on the outliers, you set impossible standards. In building the business of your dreams, realistic goals will serve you better.
In today’s episode, I lay out a simple roadmap for picking better models that has worked for me in my own business. I hope that it will help you. Listen to the episode here or subscribe in Apple Podcasts.
Show Notes
As I mentioned in the episode, here’s the series about reusing and repurposing content. I’ve already produced a couple recent episodes on syndicating content safely, but I wanted to take it a step further:
- Repurposing Content Is a Part of Any Content Strategy
- Repurposing Content Across Formats
- Repurposing Content: My Upstream Method
- Repurposing Content: My Downstream Method
