The One Word That Diminishes Your Work

Every time someone asks you to work for free, they are devaluing you and your work.

There’s one word that diminishes your work. It underestimates your expertise, undervalues your skills, and underappreciates your experience. Once you start to listen for it, you won’t be able to ignore it. You’ll find that some people don’t mean to use it – and others definitely do. You may even catch yourself using this word.

The new season of Marketing Without the Marketing begins with a rant against the one insidious word that drives me crazy. Listen to Episode 142 here, in Apple Podcasts, or in your favorite pod player.

Show Notes

As I mentioned at the end of this episode, I’ll be starting a new series on how to go beyond the basic activities and “level up” your content marketing efforts. I invite you to subscribe here so I can let you know when new episodes publish. I publish a new episode most Mondays, and I try to keep them short and to the point.

My email list is a feed – get quick reminders, no spam, and I would never sell or otherwise misuse your address. You select your preferences for what you receive and how often (which is the way it should be – it’s your inbox, not mine). I make it easy to unsubscribe in every message.

If you are new to the show, here’s a little bit about me. I am a practitioner who shares what I learn in the field in my podcast and blog. I do this for free to “pay it forward.” If you are able, fuel my efforts with a cup of coffee!

I also offer inexpensive help in my online courses, and do private one-on-one training as well.
